The presidents of Saint-Gobain, Vinci and Generali have asked, on Wednesday 19 April 2017, the first stone of the future tower of Saint-Gobain in the business district of La Defense. The building is 165 meters in height, signed Valode & Pistre, must be completed in two years. Discovery of the project in detail.
“Round crystal 165 metres tall“, “large architectural sculpture“, “green glass composed of three prisms“… all the superlatives were used to describe the future headquarters of the Saint-Gobain group. The comments of the leaders of the three major groups – Pierre-André de Chalendar, Saint-Gobain, Xavier Huillard Vinci and Gabriele Galateri di Genola for Generali – are unanimous : the creation of Valode & Pistre will “create an aesthetic emotion, “says Denis Valode itself. The architect says : “What we wanted to do is tour new generation that surprises by its boldness“. It describes a building that “exceeds its functionality and become an element of the urban landscape” to be loved, its occupants, and city dwellers in general.
A showcase of the technical solutions of the group
Gathered for the ceremony of the laying of the first stone, all the actors of the project are followed to the podium to talk about their vision of the future tower. The president of Saint-Gobain, which monitors the site from its office located in the present headquarters of the group, on the other side of the street, explains : “The 80 materials Saint-Gobain incorporated will be the cornerstone of the new tower, which will take the suite in the tower of the Mirrors, after 40 years of good and loyal services“. In effect, the building will include a set of home-made solutions to serve as a showcase of know-how, whether glazing smart coatings purifying the indoor air, mortars for floors or ceilings, metal, acoustic, and heated. The tower incorporates “a promise to requirement, well-being, visual comfort, acoustics, air quality“, lists a Pierre-André de Chalendar, which evokes the aspect of sustainable and efficient construction. For 2,500 employees of the group who would come to work, it ensures that the spaces have been redesigned and open-plan, for a more sociable and collaborative work.
