The list of the twelve winning projects of the 3rd edition of the Prix Versailles was revealed in the may 12, 2017. The list is balanced at global level, between projects of european, asian and american, Africa and Oceania also represented. Overview of these achievements, the commercial exception.
It is up to Unesco, the world headquarters of the culture, that was held the final ceremony of the Prix Versailles 2017. The international Union of architects (UIA) held, for the first time, this competition, which was organized in two stages, with a selection by region of the globe, and then a selection of the world. Not less than 70 winners continental from 36 countries of the six continents, were given appointments in Paris, may 12.
The jury, also international, was chaired by François de Mazières, mayor of Versailles, and included a number of prestigious members : the French architect Manuelle Gautrand, fashion designer chinese Guo Pei, the japanese architect Toyo Ito (Pritzker award 2013), the French philosopher Gilles Lipovetsky, the chef Guy Savoy, the chinese architect Wang Shu (Pritzker prize 2012) and Minja Yang, director Unesco for the Asia-Pacific region. He was particularly attentive “to the achievements that are part of a sustainable development approach, that also have an exemplary value, which other actors may draw upon“. Thomas Vonier, UIA secretary general was sent on 11 may to the participants to tell them the importance of commercial architecture to the vitality of urban spaces, highlighting buildings that extolled “the common experience“.
The jurors have distinguished achievements in four categories, Stores, shopping malls, Hotels and Restaurants, and have assigned, at each time, a Price and two references, to the interior and exterior.
