ITER : in the guts of 3 km of galleries networks




STORY. Over the past ten-months, the site of the Tokamak, the future thermonuclear reactor built on the ITER site of Cadarache, Saint-Paul-lez-Durance (Bouches-du-Rhône), is accelerating, particularly in the area of networks. And the numbers are breathtaking. Find out for yourself.
Five cranes, the 2,100 employees of which 700 workers, 3 kilometres of the network, and miles of “spaghetti” of cables… the figures in The site of Cadarache, in france, are impressive, and the decor is planted forty miles north of Aix-en-Provence (Bouches-du-Rhône). At the heart of the Tokamak*, the future “brain” a nuclear project ITER in Saint-Paul-lez-Durance (Bouches-du-Rhône), an imposing building 80 meters high has been built. The construction started, 18 months ago, is accelerating, particularly for the sector of the networks. The figures are still breathtaking to realize the infrastructure networks such as electricity, telecommunications, roads, industrial and health : 3 km of networks, 224.000 m2 of roads, and 16,000 m3 of concrete for structures buried but also the 2,100 tons of reinforcement steel. Not to mention that it is necessary to extract on this site 348.000 m3 of material.

 

The construction of the largest Tokamak ever built in the world

 

In the framework of the construction of the largest Tokamak ever built in the world, Fusion For Energy (F4E), the contracting authority of the project was entrusted to the consortium Spie batignolles TPCI / Valérian / Spie batignolles sud-est / ADF Agency (Fos) the completion of the batch TB16.

 

In fact, it is the fourth market in the amount of 60.7 million euros HT (501,6 million euros for Spie batignolles), that Fusion For Energy has entrusted Spie batignolles, after the earthworks general of the platform (2008/2009) and the realization of the first infrastructures of the site : the PF Coïls (2012/2013) and the Cryostat (2014/2015).

 

*Tokamak : chamber toroidal magnetic confinement of the study of plasmas and, in particular, the production of energy by nuclear fusion.
