TECHNICAL SOLUTION. A solar panel which produces electricity, heating and domestic hot water (DHW), while ensuring ventilation, summer and winter, without the need to change its system cumulus : impossible ? Not for SCTD Industries, which has developed its in-house solution Solar-Clean. Denis Leturgie, its inventor, we reveals the secrets.
Denis Leturgie is not resting on its laurels. While developing its methane digester home that turns household waste into electricity, he continued, in parallel, the development of another system of production of renewable energy. Named “Solar-Clean”, this invention is claimed to be a solution 4-in-1, which provides electricity, hot water, heat and provides ventilation. The designer explains : “there is a little more than 3 years, we have tested the aérovoltaïque, with six or eight installations at clients. If for the production of electricity, these systems were very good, they were, however, a calorie content very disappointing. So we decided to manufacture our own product with electrical power and extra heat, all the time“.

The company SCTD board on the issue for several years, with the development of several prototypes, leading to a system whose logic is different from that of the aérovoltaïque classic. Denis Leturgie reveals : “The air is not sucked to the outside, where it is potentially a very cold, but inside, where it is already tempered. The outside temperature influence very little the performance of the system and does away with the need of a ‘booster’ that consumes more than 2,000 W. Even if it’s -10 °C outside, 400 W of the integrated resistor in the nozzle of ventilation are enough“. But what exactly is the operating principle ? The company explains to be a part of a solar panel that is classic and have created a case isolated little thick, designed to recover heat from photovoltaic collectors. “We have integrated sensors, developed the flow of air, the suction… The air knife takes almost all of the housing, while the hot water production is integrated through a coil suspended inside, glued to the felt of the panel, in order to recover the heat, “he continued.
Mounting ease and increased performance
The result is a general purpose sensor that develops an electric power of 300 Wc and a heat output of about 3,000 W. The company has worked with a thermicien in order to obtain a system that does not breath ever air heating below 30 °C : “Because it is losing between 8 and 10 °C in a forced-air, and a blowing air at 20 °C gives the impression to the user to be cold“. And the Solar solution-Clean values doubling this heat, at the same time providing priority to the heating in the winter, and ensuring that rather the production of hot water in the summer. Denis Leturgie provides : “The system is suitable for all climate zones, even if the production yield ECS is the best in the South. And it piggybacks on any install of cumulus, no change, just with modifications of piping“. A simplified installation, a craftsman empowered to ask for solar panels as standard would be able to achieve without a particular certificate. “Even an individual can install it with instructions“, plays the head of SCTD.

But what happens in the winter in case of frost ? Or sudden need of a greater amount of hot water the night ? “There is a protection against the frost with a self-draining system. For the summer, the case and components are resistant to high temperatures. And the system is automated, controlled by a digital thermostat“. With respect to a possible water problem in the sensor, photovoltaic, specialist, explains : “The heat exchanger is of a single block, in order to avoid this risk. And the subwoofer has outputs of condensation under the panel“. According to its designer, a panel can be heated from 20 to 50 m2, depending on the level of insulation of the building. Well suited to roofs superimposed, it is also possible to install the front panel, and mount the panels in parallel, in order to separate the heating zones of the home.
A company that is growing
“Solar-Clean is marketed for a little over a year and we have between 50 and 60 panels installed, a little everywhere in France. We have a lot of applications in the United States and Canada, but it is necessary to make technical amendments to adapt to the voltage of 110 V“, tells Denis Leturgie. The company SCTD which is in negotiation with distributors, intends to retain the upper hand on the production and the commercial policy of its brand. He said not to have received any help and have worked with only the equity of the company, which remains a small family business. He displays great confidence in his solution : “It is a product that is beefy that is guaranteed for 10 years in all. Its estimated life is more than 20 years“. Various options can be added, such as a control by smartphone or tablet via a thermostat connected, or an amazing system of LED backlight panels, sometimes requested by clients who install roof-terrace.

What will be the future of this solution ? “Our goal, for 2017, is to provide 50 to 60 pieces per month. To achieve this we will be hiring and the relocation of our workshop into something more grand. And we will continue to produce our methane digester in parallel, since it is growing strongly on the market of professional – canteens, caterers – and that there has also been a lot of requests to overseas such as Vietnam, Cuba, Africa…, “says the inventor.
